Managing your emails
Python Morsels sends a few different kinds of email, and you're in control of all of them.
- What kinds of email will I get?
- How do I change what I receive?
- How do I change how often exercise emails arrive?
- How do I unsubscribe from everything?
- I unsubscribed by accident. Can I undo it?
What kinds of email will I get?
There are three kinds you can control:
- Exercise recommendation emails: your personalized nudge to keep practicing, with your next exercise, a due revisit, or a screencast recommendation. You choose how often these arrive (see below).
- Python Morsels announcements: very occasional news about new features and sales.
- Trey's Python tips newsletter: my weekly Python tip, sent to newsletter subscribers whether or not they use Python Morsels.
Transactional email (receipts, password resets, email verification) is separate and only arrives when you trigger it.
How do I change what I receive?
Everything is on your Preferences page:
- Exercise email frequency: daily, weekly, monthly, or never.
- Python Morsels announcements: a checkbox.
- Trey's Python tips newsletter: a checkbox.
Each newsletter and announcement email also has an unsubscribe link of its own, and your choices stay in sync however you make them.
How do I change how often exercise emails arrive?
Pick a frequency on your Preferences page: daily, weekly, monthly, or never.
Recommendation emails go out at 7am US Pacific time: every day on the daily setting, Mondays on weekly, and the first Monday of the month on monthly. A change takes effect with the next scheduled send.
For more on what the recommendation email contains and how it decides what to recommend, see How often you get exercises and emails.
How do I unsubscribe from everything?
Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of a newsletter or announcement email, or the built-in Unsubscribe button your mail app shows on any Python Morsels email. Exercise recommendation emails link to your Preferences page instead, where "Never" is one click away.
You'll land on a confirmation page first, so a single stray click never unsubscribes you. Unsubscribing there stops everything at once: exercise emails, announcements, and the newsletter. If you'd rather keep some emails and drop others, that page also links to your notification settings so you can fine-tune instead.
I unsubscribed by accident. Can I undo it?
Yes. The page you see right after unsubscribing has an Undo unsubscribe button that turns everything back on.
If you've already closed that page, just visit your Preferences page and re-enable whatever you'd like, or email me and I'll sort it out.
